Player 1 Press is a creative design and printmaking studio that specializes in working closely with artists, writers, and educators who speak endangered languages to create language revitalization games, books, and tools.

Player 1 Press was founded in 2021 by Ashley Houghton. Ashley, a citizen of the Mvskoke Nation, was inspired to create this space after beginning to learn the Mvskoke language. As somebody who learns through play, she identified the need for differentiated learning methods for endangered languages. In response, she designed Player 1 Press’ first project ‘Punvkv: The Mvskoke Language Game.

Ashley is a Chicago-based designer and printmaker with an MFA from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago. She hopes to combine her artistic skills with her experience learning an at-risk language to support others in the process of designing and fabricating language revitalization tools.

Player 1 Press uses RISO Printing, Lasercutting, and coding to design physical and virtual resources.
